Best Sunscreen for Every Climate and Skin Type | THE ROUTINE
The Best Sunscreen for Every Climate and Skin Type: Why THE ROUTINE Works Wherever You Are
Most people choose sunscreen by looking at one thing: the SPF number.
That matters, but it is not the full story.
The sunscreen you actually wear every day depends on much more than the number on the front of the tube. It depends on your climate, your skin type, how your skin behaves during the day, whether the product feels greasy, whether it leaves a white cast, whether it works with sweat, and whether it makes your skin feel comfortable after repeated daily use.
That is why we made THE ROUTINE differently.
THE ROUTINE SPF 40 Invisible Gel Sunscreen was born in the UAE for extreme heat, humidity and skin that moves. But the problem we solve is not limited to the UAE.
It is a global sunscreen problem.
In Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and Doha, sunscreen has to stand up to heat, sweat, strong sun and air conditioning. In Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, it has to deal with tropical humidity. In the UK, Germany, France, Canada and the northern United States, it has to protect against year-round UVA exposure even when the weather is cold, cloudy or grey. In Australia, South Africa and Southern Europe, it has to work for outdoor lifestyles, strong UV and summer heat.
Different countries. Different climates. Same basic issue:
Sunscreen only works properly when you actually want to wear it.
That is where THE ROUTINE comes in.
Clear gel texture.
Matte finish.
Zero white cast.
Water resistant.
No Alcohol Denat. in the formula.
Fast-feeling jojoba and argan oils.
Vitamin E and tomato fruit extract for skin-conditioning support.
Born in the UAE. Built for skin everywhere.
Sunscreen is not only for hot weather
One of the biggest sunscreen myths is that you only need it when the weather is hot.
That is not true.
Heat and UV are not the same thing. You can have meaningful UV exposure on cooler days, cloudy days, snowy days and even when you are sitting near a window.
The World Health Organization explains that UVA rays have longer wavelengths than UVB rays and penetrate deeper into the skin, where they can affect connective tissue and contribute to loss of elasticity and premature ageing.
The Skin Cancer Foundation also states that UVA rays can pass through window glass and cloud cover year-round, which is why daily sunscreen matters even when you are indoors, driving or living somewhere cold and cloudy.
This is why THE ROUTINE is not just a hot-weather sunscreen.
Yes, we built it to stand up to extreme heat and humidity. But we also made it for daily broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection in colder climates, cloudy cities, winter routines and indoor lifestyles where UVA exposure still matters.
Why climate changes how sunscreen feels
Your climate changes how sunscreen behaves on your skin.
In extreme heat, sunscreen can feel heavier because your skin warms up and starts sweating. In humidity, rich textures can feel stickier because the air already feels heavy. In cold weather, your skin may feel drier, tighter or more exposed to wind and indoor heating. In snowy or alpine climates, reflected UV and altitude can make protection even more important.
This means there is no point choosing a sunscreen that only feels good for the first two minutes.
A good daily sunscreen needs to work with real life:
-
heat
-
humidity
-
sweat
-
cold air
-
indoor heating
-
air conditioning
-
outdoor movement
-
driving
-
travel
-
oily skin
-
dry skin
-
darker skin tones
-
sensitive-feeling skin
-
repeated daily use
We made THE ROUTINE to sit in the middle ground most people actually need.
Matte, but not harsh.
Lightweight, but not drying.
Clear, but not slippery.
Skin-conditioning, but not greasy.
Why we built THE ROUTINE differently
We made THE ROUTINE in the UAE because sunscreen has to work harder here.
Dubai’s official climate information describes summers as extremely hot and humid, with average summer highs around 41.8°C.
That climate forced us to think beyond traditional sunscreen.
We did not want a heavy cream.
We did not want a greasy finish.
We did not want a white cast.
We did not want a formula that relies on Alcohol Denat. to feel light.
Instead, we created a clear gel sunscreen that feels lightweight, matte and non-greasy while still giving skin comfort.
Our formula uses fast-feeling skin-conditioning oils like jojoba and argan, alongside vitamin E and tomato fruit extract. The point is not to create a rich oil layer. The point is to make daily sunscreen feel better on real skin.

Singapore is one of the strongest examples of why humid-weather sunscreen matters. Its official weather service describes the country as having a tropical climate with high and uniform temperatures, abundant rainfall and high humidity all year round.
The best sunscreen by skin type
Climate matters, but skin type matters too.
A sunscreen that works for dry skin may feel too rich on oily skin. A sunscreen that feels matte on oily skin may feel too drying for someone with a compromised barrier. A sunscreen that looks fine on light skin may leave a grey cast on deeper skin tones.
We made THE ROUTINE to remove as many of these daily-wear barriers as possible in one formula.

Why THE ROUTINE works in hot climates
Hot climates make sunscreen harder to wear.
Your skin heats up. You sweat. Your face becomes shinier. Heavy formulas can feel like they are sitting on top of your skin. Some sunscreens start to feel sticky or slippery once you are outside.
This is why we made THE ROUTINE as a clear gel.
The gel texture spreads easily, feels lightweight and dries down to a matte finish. It is water resistant, so it is better suited to sweat, movement and real daily life than sunscreens that only feel good indoors.
For hot climates, THE ROUTINE gives you:
-
matte finish
-
non-greasy feel
-
water resistance
-
zero white cast
-
clear gel texture
-
comfort in heat and sweat
-
no Alcohol Denat. in the formula
That makes it a stronger everyday choice for countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, India, Australia, Egypt, Morocco, Spain, Greece and summer conditions across Southern Europe and the United States.
Why THE ROUTINE works in humid climates
Humidity makes the air feel heavier, and that changes how sunscreen feels on skin.
A formula that feels light in a dry climate can feel sticky in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Florida or Brazil. Rich creams and oily finishes may feel more noticeable when your skin is already dealing with sweat and sebum.
THE ROUTINE works well in humidity because it was built around a lightweight matte gel system.
It gives skin comfort without the heavy surface film. It uses fast-feeling oils like jojoba and argan for conditioning support, but they sit inside a gel structure designed to keep the finish clear and non-greasy.
For humid climates, THE ROUTINE gives you:
-
lightweight texture
-
matte finish
-
water resistance
-
no sticky sunscreen feel
-
clear gel application
-
zero white cast
-
daily comfort for skin that moves
That is why THE ROUTINE makes sense from Dubai to Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Miami and Rio.
Why THE ROUTINE works in cold and cloudy climates
Cold weather can make people forget about sunscreen.
But UVA is still a daily issue.
The Skin Cancer Foundation notes that UVA remains relatively constant throughout the year and can penetrate clouds and fog. That means cold or cloudy weather does not remove the need for daily broad-spectrum protection.
In colder climates, skin may also feel drier because of wind, indoor heating and low humidity. This is where THE ROUTINE’s skin-conditioning ingredients become important.
We use jojoba, argan and vitamin E to support comfort, while still keeping the texture light and non-greasy.
For cold and cloudy climates, THE ROUTINE gives you:
-
daily broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection
-
skin-conditioning support
-
no Alcohol Denat. in the formula
-
no heavy cream feeling
-
invisible application
-
no white cast
-
a finish that works under daily routines
That makes THE ROUTINE relevant for the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Canada, New York, Scandinavia, Central Europe and other places where sunscreen is often forgotten because the weather does not “feel sunny”.
Why THE ROUTINE works in snow and alpine climates
Snow and altitude create another sunscreen problem.
People often associate skiing and winter sports with cold weather, not sun exposure. But UV exposure can still be a concern in snow and high-altitude environments. The Skin Cancer Foundation notes that UVB rays can damage skin year-round, especially on reflective surfaces such as snow or ice.
For ski trips, mountain walks or alpine holidays, your skin may be dealing with cold air, wind, dryness and sun exposure at the same time.
THE ROUTINE is useful here because it is not only built for heat. It is also a daily broad-spectrum sunscreen with skin-conditioning ingredients.
For alpine climates, THE ROUTINE gives you:
-
broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection
-
clear application
-
no white cast
-
jojoba and argan for comfort
-
vitamin E support
-
no Alcohol Denat.
-
a lightweight feel that still works under cold-weather routines
This makes it a strong choice for Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Colorado, Canada, Norway, Sweden and other alpine or snow-exposed locations.
Why THE ROUTINE works across skin types
A good sunscreen should not force you to choose between protection and comfort.
Oily skin needs a matte finish.
Dry skin needs comfort.
Darker skin tones need zero white cast.
Sensitive-feeling skin needs a formula that avoids drying alcohol.
Active skin needs water resistance.
Men and teens need something simple and invisible.
We made THE ROUTINE to cover these everyday barriers to sunscreen use.
The clear gel texture makes it easy to wear. The matte finish helps reduce the greasy look people dislike. The zero-white-cast finish makes it suitable across skin tones. The water resistance makes it better for sweat and movement. The jojoba, argan and vitamin E support comfort without turning the formula into a heavy cream.
And because we do not use Alcohol Denat. in our formulas, THE ROUTINE is a better choice for people who want lightweight sunscreen without the drying alcohol shortcut.
Why no Alcohol Denat. matters
Some sunscreens use Alcohol Denat. to make formulas feel thinner, faster-drying and lighter on first application.
We chose not to.
Daily sunscreen is something you apply repeatedly. For us, that means skin comfort matters as much as first impression.
THE ROUTINE does not use Alcohol Denat. in its formulas. We achieve our lightweight feel through our clear gel texture, modern skin-feel ingredients, mattifying powders and fast-feeling oils like jojoba and argan.
That matters in hot climates, where skin is exposed to sun, sweat and cleansing.
It matters in humid climates, where the goal is matte comfort without stripping.
It matters in cold climates, where skin may already feel dry or tight.
The goal is not to dry your skin into feeling matte.
The goal is to make sunscreen feel better.
What to look for in sunscreen by climate
When choosing sunscreen, start with your climate.
For hot climates
Look for a sunscreen that is matte, non-greasy, water resistant and easy to reapply.
For humid climates
Look for a clear gel or lightweight texture that does not feel sticky once sweat and sebum build.
For cold climates
Look for broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and skin-conditioning ingredients that support comfort.
For cloudy climates
Do not skip sunscreen. UVA can still reach your skin through clouds and window glass.
For snow and altitude
Look for broad-spectrum protection and remember that exposed areas such as the face, lips, neck and hands still need care.
For travel
Look for one sunscreen that can work across different conditions: heat, sweat, city walking, beach days, flights, air conditioning and cold-weather exposure.
That is why THE ROUTINE is designed as an all-year daily sunscreen, not just a beach product.
What to look for in sunscreen by skin type
Your skin type changes what “good sunscreen” feels like.
Oily skin
Choose matte, lightweight and non-greasy.
Dry skin
Choose skin-conditioning ingredients and avoid formulas that rely on drying alcohol.
Sensitive-feeling skin
Choose a daily sunscreen that feels comfortable and does not use Alcohol Denat.
Darker skin tones
Choose clear gel or zero-white-cast sunscreen.
Active skin
Choose water resistance and a texture that works with sweat.
Men
Choose something invisible, quick and non-greasy.
Teens
Choose a formula that is simple, clear and easy to use consistently.
Mature skin
Choose broad-spectrum protection and ingredients that support skin comfort, especially because UVA is strongly linked with premature ageing.
Why THE ROUTINE is the better sunscreen for real life
THE ROUTINE was not created for one country, one skin type or one season.
It was created for the way people actually live.
People sweat.
People travel.
People drive.
People sit near windows.
People move between heat and air conditioning.
People go from cold weather to beach holidays.
People have oily skin in summer and dry-feeling skin in winter.
People skip sunscreen when it feels heavy, white, greasy or drying.
We made THE ROUTINE to remove those barriers.
It is clear enough for every skin tone.
Matte enough for hot and humid weather.
Comfortable enough for daily use.
Water resistant enough for movement.
Skin-conditioning enough for colder climates and dry-feeling skin.
Simple enough to become a habit.
That is why we believe THE ROUTINE is the better sunscreen choice wherever you are.
Final verdict
The best sunscreen is not just the one with the highest number.
It is the one you actually use properly, every day, in the climate you live in and on the skin you have.
THE ROUTINE was born in the UAE, where sunscreen has to stand up to extreme heat, humidity and skin that moves. But the same formula logic makes sense far beyond the Middle East.
In Singapore and Thailand, it makes sense because humidity demands a lighter, non-sticky texture.
In the UK, Canada and Central Europe, it makes sense because UVA exposure continues even when the weather is cold, grey or cloudy.
In Australia, South Africa, Southern Europe and the United States, it makes sense because daily outdoor life needs sunscreen that feels good enough to keep wearing.
For oily skin, it is matte.
For dry skin, it is comfortable.
For darker skin tones, it is clear.
For sensitive-feeling skin, it has no Alcohol Denat.
For active skin, it is water resistant.
For daily life, it is simple.
That is the point of THE ROUTINE.
Clear gel sunscreen. Matte finish. Zero white cast. Water resistant. No Alcohol Denat. Fast-feeling jojoba and argan. Vitamin E and tomato fruit extract. Born in the UAE. Built for skin everywhere.
